The classification as an object of speculation means that gains from the sale of cryptocurrencies are completely tax-free after a holding period of at least one year. If a sale is conducted within the one-year holding period, an exemption limit of 600 euros p.a. still applies - however, the exemption limit applies to all private sale transactions in the year in question, i.e. it does not only apply to the taxpayer's crypto transactions.
Further information on the speculative period and the classification of coins and tokens can be found in our crypto tax guide (in German only)
